About ppera
A simple tool for a small, everyday moment: the bill arrives and you need the right number fast.
What we do
ppera.com is an independent website built around one tool: a free tip calculator that works out the tip, splits the bill, handles pre-tax tipping, rounds amounts up and works in several currencies. Alongside it we publish plain-English articles that answer the questions people actually ask about tipping at home and abroad.
Our principles
- Fast and free. No account, no app to install, no paywall.
- Private by design. Calculations run in your browser. We do not store the amounts you type.
- Accurate. Every formula and worked example on the site is checked before publishing, and we update articles when customs change.
- Honest guidance. Tipping ranges are presented as typical practice, not rules. What you leave is always your decision.
How we write our guides
Our editorial team compares etiquette guidance, local customs and the way tipping actually works on receipts and card terminals, then writes original explanations with real numbers. If you spot something out of date or have a suggestion, we would love to hear from you.
How the site is funded
ppera may display advertising to cover hosting and development costs. Ads are always clearly labelled and never affect the results of the calculator or the advice in our articles.
